Anyone want to help build Event Seek?
I’d like to use this blog (and it’s many many readers) to throw out little ideas we’re working on in production and get a general feel for the potential users’ opinions. So from time to time I’ll pose a question about something we’re working on and I’d love for you guys to comment with your thoughts.
Today’s question: We want to give people the option to have Event Seek notify them of new recommended events through email and txt message. What else should we be considering? Twitter? Customized RSS feed? Please give us your thoughts so we can make sure the product meets the demanding needs of web users.

As many options as possible would be good as alot of people like to use alot of different things. Thou something that people can just click on once and it just works will be key.
Personally id like to see a small app like couple megs in size at most. Most people will be able to download it in a minute or two with broadband these days. Installs and runs as a minimised app next to the clock in windows. Just making sure it doesnt eat up my memory. Also you can make it so it just loads with windows as default with the ability to turn that off. Then it connects like an updater to the net which you could set how frequently it does it. Say every 1/3/5 hours or whatever. When new things are updated it pops up a little reminder like msn messenger when u have a new mail. But instead something like new events you might be interested are avaliable. Click the link and it loads a webpage or an application to show those events. If the person fills out a profile of what events they are into you can customise what results and things they can get reminded about. Say I was more into bands and not sporting events.
I know this is more windows oriented. As for mac im thinking a widget of some kind.
You could also use this as a selling point for advertising for companies who want their events posted the most, like being number one search on google. But instead they get to pop up more regularly as a reminder on peoples comps. Say some singers concert they are trying to sell out.
Other than that def get something integrated in what people use everyday like facebook apps. Also making sure you can forward the even to people on your list or just straight to somebodies email address.
Just whatever you do dont make a freaking toolbar in the web browser like google or every other stupid thing.. It slows the loading time of my browser and can occasionally crash my browser. Personally it also reduces the size of my screen space for webpages which i dont like either.
what you might want to look into is an extension to add to firefox or ie… basically get something like facebook chat, but instead pops up with event remiders or latest events. It works seemlessly with alot of tabs open and switching in between them. Its always accessible at the bottom and doesnt take up much to do. You could prob get this to load by setting it as ur main page. But making sure your main page which this loads has a google search thing on it. Otherwise most people wont switch their homepage.
Well tell connor is that enough of me waffling on. Hope he isnt giving you guys too hard a time. And if it is you reading this… lol
